La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+]

A couple of weeks back when Escentual were asking on Twitter for bloggers with blemish prone skin to trial a new product, I had no idea I’d be signing up to try La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+]. I’d seen various photos floating around Instagram and I was super excited to see how different – and how much more effective – this new version of my old favourite Effaclar Duo would be.

The packaging is exactly the same as the old Effaclar Duo, with plenty of information about the product on the outside. However, Effaclar Duo [+] promises to do much more than the original, correcting imperfections like scarring and eventually improving the skin’s clarity while providing 24 hour hydration. Just what you’re looking for with acne-prone skin – a preventative treatment that’s not drying.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo La Roche Posay Effaclar DuoAs per the instructions I’ve been applying Effaclar Duo [+] in the morning before any primers or makeup and at night along with the Effaclar A.I. treatment on extra angry blemishes that needed a bit more of a push to go away. I have given it a bit of extra help but nothing I wouldn’t do normally. This is also how I used the original Effaclar Duo.

After 24 hours my skin felt smoother, especially straight after applying Effaclar Duo [+]. After applying it at night any blemishes I had were noticeably calmer. My makeup definitely wore better on my face and my skin seemed to be matte for much longer although it did end up oily after a couple of hours.

After 8 days I think this has reduced the redness in my skin. My face is naturally more pink than my body, which has more of a yellow undertone, and this sometimes accentuates just how red and uneven my face is in some places. Although some of the more stubborn blemishes are still there, I haven’t spotted any new ones developing and I’ve already noticed my skin looking a lot clearer.

Here’s a before and after too. Be nice, there isn’t one scrap of makeup on my face in these!

La Roche Posay Effaclar DuoI don’t know if I’m just wanting to see a difference, but I’m thinking my skin tone looks a lot more even.

Would I recommend this product? Absolutely, especially if you have oily, blemish prone skin like myself. Effaclar Duo is a total skin saviour for me and Effaclar Duo [+] seems to be taking its place nicely. I repurchased the original three times over so I’ll be grabbing another tube of this when it runs out. It keeps my skin under control without making it too dry.

While La Roche-Posay claim a lot with this product, I always think it’s good to remember you can only do so much with skincare, and the rest is down to your skin type and your lifestyle. I wasn’t expecting a miracle and to end up wonderfully clear skin from this, but I’m very pleased with the results I’ve got so far.

I’ll be sure to update you with a post in 3 weeks time to see if Effaclar Duo [+] is still working after 4 weeks!

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] is £15.50 from Escentual.

  2. Thank you! Let me know how it goes. I find if I have too much dairy my skin ends up really bad. I used to avoid it completely to stop breakouts xx
